Maha Shivaratri
The great night. Not a celebration — a vigil. The one festival whose entire practice is to stay awake, which is also its whole meaning.

Holika Dahan · Holi
The fire the night before the colour. Holika burns and the child does not — the tradition puts the destruction of malice before the celebration, in that order, on purpose.
