Turn a card. Answer all three rightly and this portal is sealed in your sky. New riddles every morning.
May the lamps on the river tonight remind you that every light you see borrows from one light, and that it shines in you too.
तमेव भान्तमनुभाति सर्वं तस्य भासा सर्वमिदं विभाति ॥
tameva bhāntamanubhāti sarvaṁ tasya bhāsā sarvamidaṁ vibhāti ॥
Its meaning
As That shines, everything shines after it; by its light all this is lit.

Wishing you a blessed Kartik Purnima · Dev Deepawali
Every festival on its right day for Hyderabad, inside your phone's own calendar, each one opening its page here. It renews itself every year. No account needed.

A gentle reminder three days before each festival and on its morning, with its timing for your city.
The full Moon of Kartika closes the month the tradition counts holiest of the year, and its light falls on rivers already lined with lamps.
The lamps go to the river. In Kashi the ghats are lit end to end for the devas.
3 stories the day keeps. Turn each card.
Three asura brothers ruled three flying cities that could be struck only when they stood in one line, and only by a single arrow. Shiva, with the earth as his chariot and Mount Meru as his bow, loosed that one arrow and the cities fell. He is Tripurari, the foe of Tripura, and this full Moon is kept as his victory.
Shiva Purana, Rudra Samhita; the tale is told also in the Mahabharata, Karna Parva.
Kashi tells that on this night the devas come down to bathe in the Ganga. To welcome them the city lights its ghats from end to end, a river of lamps a fortnight after the people's own Diwali.
Kashi's living tradition.
Guru Nanak, the first Sikh Guru, was born at Talwandi, now Nankana Sahib. Sikhs keep his birth on the full Moon of Kartika, his Gurpurab, with dawn processions, the reading of the Guru Granth Sahib and the langar where all sit in one line to eat.
The Janamsakhis and the living Sikh tradition.
2 days kept as one season. Each has its own page.
Often said
Whatever is offered to the river, the river makes pure.
The root
A river receives a lamp of clay and a leaf boat. Plastic, foil and painted idols stay in her long after the night is over. Leave the bank cleaner than you found it; that is the offering she keeps.
Free acts, done by you. Kept so far this year: 0 of 3.
Take a lamp of clay to moving water, and clean the bank around you before you set it afloat.
Cook or serve a meal for others and sit to eat with them, in one line, as equals.
Sit before one lamp for ten minutes and let the eyes rest on its flame.
Each act is free and done by you. Keeping one writes it to your karma ledger with the day's panchang. Nothing here is ever bought, and no act is a remedy.

The day is chosen by the moment the tradition reads its tithi at, and the times are that day's own, computed for this city. A festival-specific puja window is not printed: those rules differ by tradition and await a scholar's review.
The stories, their sources and the regional customs on this page await a scholar's review. The sky and the dates are computed for your city.
